This document discusses the challenges faced by Ukrainian civil society organizations (CSOs) working in the context of the 2014 Ukraine crisis. It starts by outlining the two main levels of conflict in Ukraine: 1) that between state and society that was behind the Maidan movement; and 2) the separatist conflict between Eastern and Western Ukraine. The authors then discuss the different mechanisms needed to overcome these conflicts and the roles civil society should play in this process. They also point out, however, that these issues are not always a top priority for CSOs due to problems related to their own security.
