This bulletin discusses the results of Indonesia’s 2014 presidential elections including what the election of Djoko Widodo (Jokowi) means for democracy in the country. The author argues that besides putting democracy in Indonesia on a much stronger footing, Jokowi's victory shows the increased role of civil society in the political process and also the decline in the power of the traditional political elites.
