This report provides an account of Hurricane Sandy’s impact on the Port of New York and New Jersey and the surrounding communities as well as the subsequent recovery efforts. The authors particularly focus on the collaboration between the private and the public sector in the response efforts and how these enabled a successful and timely recovery. They also offer recommendations to the US public and private authorities charged with strengthening port communities on how to further reduce the potential impact of natural or human-caused disasters.
