This brief examines the US administration’s stance on Israel’s 2014 military operation "Protective Edge" against Hamas. The author argues that while Washington has stressed its support for Israel’s right to self-defense, censured Hamas for breaking the ceasefire and operating within civilian areas, it has also demanded that Israel exercise restraint in its military responses and criticized Israel for the loss of lives and civilian damages suffered by the population in Gaza as a result of the operation.
