This paper examines the culture of Australia’s defense services - including the Australian Defense Force (ADF) and the civilian members of the Australian Public Service - as well as how the language used within these services supports or hinders social inclusion. The author also examines the policy implications of the language socialization practices of the Australia’s defense services and what the ADF must do to change these practices if it wants to increase diversity and embrace social inclusion.
