This paper examines the role public intellectuals, specifically Arab World writers, played in the Arab Spring. The author argues that many Arab literary figures criticized authoritarian regimes publicly while walking a fine line between freedom of expression and censorship. He also suggests that through this criticism these writers served as a catalysts for social change in the region.
