This paper discusses China's efforts to transform its approach to military training through a process of "informationization". After briefly reviewing the first three transformations, it discusses 1) how China and the PLA define “informationization”; 2) what impact "informationization" will have on the PLA’s military training; 3) why the PLA is conducting its fourth training transformation at the beginning of the 21st century; 4) how the PLA will carry out military training under "informationized" conditions; and 5) how the reform in military training will improve the level of actual combat capability.
