This commentary examines how the EU's newly appointed Commissioner for Climate Action and Energy and the Vice-President for Energy Union can further develop the Union's renewable energy policy and promote the EU Emissions Trading System. The author argues that these objectives are ambitious and partially conflicting and proposes several approaches as to how they can be met.
