This commentary addresses the implications for US-Israeli relations of Tel Aviv's announcement of construction in Jewish settlements in the West Bank and elsewhere before, during and after meetings between Israeli prime ministers and US presidents. The author also underlines the significance of US political and military support for Israel's security and contends that announcements of construction, such as those which took place in the context of Prime Minister Netanyahu’s visit to the US on October 1st 2014, are damaging Washington-Tel Aviv relations.
