This paper examines China's plan to improve its geostrategic position in the world by reviving the Maritime Silk Road (MSR), an ancient ocean trade route linking China to the countries further West. More specifically, the author looks at 1) the origin of the MSR; 2) China's proposal of reviving the MSR in a modern form; 3) its objectives for reviving the route; and 4) the responses of ASEAN and India to the proposal.
