This paper discusses how South Africa’s unique position in multilateral arrangements such as the BRICS and IBSA can enhance the country’s contribution to peacebuilding and postconflict reconstruction and development (PCRD) in Africa. The author argues that this contribution is an important element of South Africa's role in the new global development context and provides recommendations on how the country can fulfill this role effectively.
