This report overviews the status of the Rakhine State, which is a part of Burma that's suffering from serious inter-communal and inter-religious conflict, extreme poverty and underdevelopment. More specifically, the report 1) provides a historical background of the area; 2) examines its current status from both a Buddhist and Muslim perspective; 3) looks at current government initiatives to solve the state's problems; and 4) calls for the international community to provide humanitarian support and protection for the area's vulnerable people.
