This report examines the impact of violent extremism in Kyrgyzstan, both within the country and on its neighbors. Some of the reasons behind the post-2010 spike in militancy include drug trafficking; poorly educated and disaffected youth, who have readily joined armed groups; and regional powers such as China, who have created socio-political conditions that lead to violence. The report closes by providing recommendations on what to do about this rising scourge.
