This commentary discusses the EU's request in October 2014 that the UK pay an extra 2.1 billion euros in membership fees due to an increase in the country's declared gross domestic product over the previous years. The authors then go on to explain why, despite the reaction of the UK Prime Minister David Cameron to the request, the rules which require the UK to pay the money are clear and fair to all members of the Union.
