This paper examines the security situation in East Jerusalem and the rising tensions between the Jewish and Arab residents of the city, following the July 2014 murder of the Palestinian teenager Muhammad Abu Khdeir. The authors argue that the implications of the mounting tensions in East Jerusalem may prove significant for Israel on a number of levels, including a lack of trust in both leaderships and potential harm for Israel’s foreign relations. They then provide recommendations to the Israeli government on how to reduce friction and settle the situation.
