This commentary examines the fight against the terrorist organization Islamic State (IS) in Syria and Iraq by the US and international coalition. The author provides an overview of the challenges that US President Obama as leader of the coalition faces. He then gives several recommendations on how to defeat IS, which include making a commitment to use ground forces and providing stronger support of the Sunni tribes in western Iraq.
