This paper examines the changing geopolitical dynamics in the energy market, following the breakthroughs in shale gas and tight oil exploitation in the Western Hemisphere. The author argues that this breakthrough will reshape geopolitics, making Canada, the United States, Mexico, and Brazil the new centers of gravity for oil and gas production. He then examines the US energy security and economy and provides recommendations for the US government on how to take on this new role and position itself vis-à-vis the oil producing countries in the Middle East and Asia.
