This commentary discusses the implications for the UK of a November 11, 2014 ruling by the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU), which rejected a case brought against the Leipzig Jobcenter in Germany for refusing to grant certain social welfare benefits to a Romanian living in the country who was not seeking employment. The author particularly focus on how the ruling demonstrates the way in which EU member states can control which welfare benefits can be granted to citizens of other Union countries.
