This commentary argues that although the EU Commission's inclusion of an "Energy Union" as part of its mission statement is a positive step for the EU's economy, well-being and security, the Commission will have to develop a credible strategy before the energy union can become reality. The authors then set out six priorities which the Commission should give immediate attention to in order to bring about more cooperation on energy matters between EU member states.
