This edition of MSN Discussion Points assesses what role mediation can play in conflict transformation processes on the basis of insights from South African experiences in this area. In particular, the authors examine the relationship between mediation and conflict transformation with a focus on the questions raised in both approaches by 1) the problem of how to prioritize the different issues involved in peace processes; 2) the issue of how to include diverse actors in these; and 3) the connections between the local, national, regional and international levels in a given situation.
