This report examines the debate within the Taliban over how the group should respond to the first and second round of Afghanistan’s 2014 presidential election. Using interviews with Taliban members, elders, local strongmen, and a Ministry of Interior official, the authors study the Taliban's insurgent activities as well as the role of non-Taliban actors in the electoral violence which took place.
