This report features articles on the study of weak states, with a particular focus on the Middle East. Among other issues, the articles examine 1) the debate over the definition of a weak state and what causes state weakness and failure; 2) the impact that western conceptions of stability and state failure have had on the actions of the international community in Yemen; and 3) how Hezbollah developed into the most powerful non-state domestic actor in Lebanon.
