In the wake of the January 2015 shootings at the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, this brief discusses the proclamations often made by Western leaders following similar terrorist attacks involving Muslim assailants: Islam cannot be held to blame for the attacks. The author argues that there is no definite answers as to whether Islam is a violent religion or not and Western leaders would be well advised to stay out of this theological and ideological minefield.
