This paper explores some of challenges facing Egypt in early 2015 as a result of the security situation in the Sinai Peninsula. More specifically, the author discusses 1) the Egyptian state's protracted conflict with domestic Salafist jihadists in the Sinai; 2) Egyptian security forces' counter-terror operations against Hamas; and 3) why the growing internal unrest in Jordan is of concern to Egypt. The author also addresses the implications of the security situation in the Sinai Peninsula for Israel.
