This paper examines the effect of the Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) on public welfare by analyzing its impact on the pharmaceutical sector in China, India and Brazil. The authors focus on the policies of these countries as well as their use of the flexibilities the agreement grants them with regard to intellectual property rights as a result of their development status.
