This paper examines the purchase of sophisticated French weapons systems by Egypt at the beginning of 2015, including FREMM frigates and Rafale combat aircraft. It also wonders what these purchases say about the Middle East’s defense market, both in terms of France's future role in it and the possible distancing of US-Egyptian defense ties.
