This paper examines the economic situation in Afghanistan, how it has been affected by the military operations carried out in the country since the 1970s, and the extent of the economic recovery in Afghanistan since the removal of the Taliban from power in 2001. The author also discusses Afghanistan’s natural resources, its prospects for development and the problems created for the agricultural economy and food production by opium cultivation.
