This commentary discusses the EU's reaction to a 2015 scandal involving a vast wiretapping operation that provides evidence of alleged corruption by the Macedonian government. The author argues that letting the scandal pass without an appropriate response by the EU would deal a terrible blow to the Union's policy of putting the rule of law at the heart of its enlargement policy.
