This paper discusses the significance of the battles underway since February 2015 in the Daraa district in southern Syria between the Syrian army, the Iranian Quds forces, and Hizbollah on the one hand, and various rebel groups and organizations on the other. The author also describes the importance victory in these battles will have, not just for the parties involved, but also for the wider war effort and surrounding countries, such as Israel and Jordan.
