This paper conceptualizes the notion of globalization as a multifaceted phenomenon that defies any simple definition. Analyzing ten kinds of controversies or problems surrounding the notion of globalization, the author finds that all these problems can be formulated as dichotomous pairs where both ends are relevant aspects of globalization that need to be synthesized. The paper concludes that thinking in terms of dialectics may provide a useful analytical tool for understanding the peculiarities of globalization.
