This paper addresses resilience in urban areas to hazards created by such things as social unrest and climate change as well as its relationship to the resilience of critical infrastructures (CI). More specifically, the authors review the literature on urban resilience before discussing 1) the debate over the possible vulnerabilities that are brought about by the private ownership of critical infrastructure in urban areas; and 2) the debate over the role that land-use and urban planning play in contributing to urban resilience. They also discuss some of the implications of these debates for Switzerland.
