This paper analyzes the public papers of US presidents from Regan to Obama to determine the part the Baltic region has played in Washington's foreign policy and strategy. The author contends that in times of stability, the Baltic region seems to be almost inconsequential to the US. However, when there are tense security situations - such as after Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014 - the region is temporarily put in the spotlight. He also suggests that the Baltic's reentry into US strategy in 2014 demonstrates that the region has become a crisis area in which Washington sees a threat to its interests and those of its allies.
