This paper argues that Israel not only has a moral imperative to help with the reconstruction process in the Gaza Strip following its 2014 military operation against Hamas, but a strategic one to help prevent an outbreak of another conflict as well. The author then outlines the strategic dilemmas facing Israel regarding the reconstruction process, including 1) the possibility that it could strengthen Hamas and make it difficult to thwart the group's efforts to gain more arms; and 2) its potential negative impact on Israeli-Egyptian relations. Finally, he discusses how Israel can deal with these dilemmas and highlights the importance of getting the Palestinian Authority and the international community involved in the reconstruction process.
