This paper looks at the history and current state of security relations between the Nordic-Baltic region and the US as well as at the challenges facing these. The authors first examine how US and Nordic security assistance contributed to the Baltic states’ engagement in NATO missions after independence in the early 1990s. They then analyze the implications of the Ukraine crisis as well as the changing US perception of European defense and the so-called US pivot to Asia for the Nordic-Baltic security environment.
