This report describes how governments in Northeast and Southeast Asia have been modernizing and expanding their air and naval forces in recent years. More specifically, the report's author examines 1) the variable defense spending in these two regions; 2) the current air-maritime modernization programs being pursued by specific countries; and 3) the possible implications of the latter programs for the Australian Government and Australian Defence Force.
