This article looks at a report by the Commission of Inquiry appointed by the UN Human Rights Council published on June 22, 2015 which examined the July-August 2014 Israel-Gaza conflict. The authors condemn the report for criticizing Israel's military operations in the conflict in a misguided and unprofessional way and only relying on a few exceptional cases in which damage could not be prevented. They also argue that while mistakes in the field may have occurred, this does not mean that the Israel's strategy in the conflict was illegal. Finally, they stress that the approach of the UN report is especially problematic for Israel as it fuels public criticism and could even leads to legal action against the Israeli defense force.
