This report examines NATO's maritime interests and priorities within a changing strategic environment. More specifically, the report’s author 1) highlights the significance of the global maritime domain for the Alliance and its members; 2) discusses the history of NATO's maritime operations; 3) outlines global trends that are of significant strategic importance for NATO's maritime strategy; and 4) analyzes the role of naval forces in the Alliance. The report concludes by providing recommendations on how NATO should prepare for the maritime challenges it will most likely face in the future.
