This brief focuses on the sexual violence currently being perpetrated by extremist groups, why it’s part of their kitbag of cruelty, and what can be done to combat the problem. In the last case, the author stresses that it’s important to examine the social, legal, and economic context of this form of violence, including extremist attitudes towards power relations, gender, and the economics of rape.
