This report examines transnational and organized crime as well as the harm it causes to Australia’s interests. The authors contend that such crime has an impact on Australia to the tune of an estimated AUD$15 billion per year, something which results from costs to the government through denied revenue and increased law enforcement bills. They then highlight that, apart from these costs, transnational and organized crime also does significant social, health and economic harm to individuals, communities and businesses in Australia. Finally, they identify some of the key issues they believe need be addressed in the discussion on how to deal with organized crime in Australia, including what role the Australian public and its businesses can play.
