This insight discusses “The IDF Strategy”, a document released by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on August 13, 2015 which addresses the security threats facing Israel and the IDF's strategy to deal with them. More specifically, the author outlines 1) the importance of the document for public debate in Israel; 2) the principle elements of the strategy presented, including plans for dealing with Islamic organizations such Hizbollah and Hamas; 3) the document’s treatment of civil-military relations; and 4) some of the key issues not addressed in the document.
