This brief begins by discussing how Iran has broadened its sphere of influence in the Middle East by supporting Shiite communities in the region. The authors then contend that despite Iran's success in increasing its regional influence, Tehran's inability to successfully support the Houthi rebellion in Yemen exposes the limits of its power. Finally, they explain why understanding the limits of Iran's power is important in assessing the implications of lifting the economic sanctions imposed on Iran.
