This Insight gauges the current capabilities of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF), particularly in the following areas: tactical air operations, airlift and coalition operations, joint operations with land forces, and maritime patrol. The text’s author confirms that although the RAAF has been ‘remarkably successful’ in winning government support for its acquisition programs, the service still suffers significant shortfalls in air-to-air refueling, airborne early warning and control, and anti-submarine warfare.
