This brief argues that Israel's defense forces operate under intense international scrutiny and that they are usually judged by more stringent legal-ethical standards than those applied to other countries. Given this state of affairs, the brief's author contends that it is vitally important to examine what Israel should and should not do to enhance the legitimacy of how it uses force.
