Following the November 13, 2015, terrorist attacks in Paris, French President François Hollande invoked Article 42(7) of the Lisbon Treaty, which is commonly referred to as the EU’s mutual assistance clause. This commentary discusses the practical implications of invoking this article and the provisions associated with it.
