This report deplores Australia’s and China’s poor cyber relations and worries there is little ground to develop common, mutually beneficial cyber-related policies with each other. To reverse the problem, the text’s author suggests the two countries 1) develop a clear understanding of each other’s cyber policies and organizational structures; 2) explore practical initiatives to deal with cybersecurity threats, including policing and law enforcement functions; 3) discuss in “respectful” ways their ideological differences over Internet use; and 4) establish robust mechanisms to prevent the rise of cyber-related conflicts.
