This brief analyzes the nuclear test conducted by North Korea on January 6th, 2015. In particular, the authors examine 1) what motivated Pyongyang to carry out the test; 2) the initial international reaction to the test; 3) the affect which the test could have on the global nonproliferation regime; and 4) what, if anything, can be done to reduce the nuclear threat posed by North Korea.
