This paper focuses on how the Palestinian Authority (PA) is coping with the apparent normalization of relations between Israel and the Arab states. It's all a bit of a conundrum, actually. On the one hand, the PA depends on “normal” reciprocal relations with Israel, especially in the security and economic spheres, but on the other hand its leaders have customarily opposed closer ties between Israel and the Gulf States and the Maghreb countries. After all, maintaining suitable negotiating leverage with Israel remains sacrosanct, particularly in the case of crafting a permanent settlement over lost territories.
