This report highlights the risks that could stem from the construction of the proposed Nord Stream 2 pipeline project, which would bring gas from Russia to Germany. In particular, the author highlights how the proposed pipeline would have negative implications for EU energy security due to concerns related to 1) transit security; 2) the diversity of delivery routes for Russian gas to Europe; 3) supply risks created by the proximity of the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines; and 4) the potential of the pipeline to undermine Europe’s single market in natural gas.
