This paper focuses on the roles education and training (E&T) have played and continue to play in nonviolent civil resistance movements, particularly in terms of their strategic functions and outcomes. While exploring this overall theme, the text also 1) examines the E&T dimensions of the US Civil Rights Movement, the Filipino Yellow Revolution, and the Anti-Nuclear Power Movement; 2) discusses the limitations of education and training for those involved in these types of efforts; and 3) identifies five strategic-level functions E&T could perform for those who want to improve the performance of civil resistance movements.
