On 11 March 2016, the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 2272 in response to a number of allegations regarding sexual abuse perpetrated by UN peacekeepers. To review the effectiveness of Resolution 2272 and identify how to improve its implementation, this publication 1) examines the resolution’s approach to preventing sexual exploitation and abuse in UN peacekeeping; 2) looks at key debates and controversies that have accompanied this approach; and 3) provides 21 recommendations for the UN, the Security Council, member states and others on how to deliver on the aims of the resolution.
